Accessible Transportation
January 10th 2007 02:01
There not reason why a disabled person or elderly person who needs to get around should be trapped in the home. There are many low cost or non cost options, and there many services with excorts to help individual to go outside. Most of this services require to sign up previously to the day of the appointment. I live in New York and transportation is not an issue; we have buses, subways, and accessible taxis.
In the United States, medicaid will pay for transportation (ambulette) for medical appointments or clinics. Be sure to ask for this at the doctor or clinic to fill up a form. If you have Medicare HMO, check if the ambulette service is part of your package.
It's so important to find a way to get around, independently. Because nobody like to feel like a burder. If you are disabled or a caregiver, I hope this information will help you.

I do not think that caring after a disabled person is a burden in any way. It is simply helping out someone you care for....
