Assistive Technology Issues
November 11th 2006 15:13
At the beginning of the semester, I went to meet my assistive technology therapist; her name is Mary Jean Dyczko Wood. In that particular section, we were concern to find ways in how to build an inclusive environment for a person with physical disabilities like me.
Well, the first thing was telephone access; therefore, as a solution we spoke about mouth sticks. I think that the idea is excellent because I will be able to attach the docking station to my desk or the wheelchair. Furthermore, I will be able to answer the phone, turn pages, and pick papers, sign papers and keystrokes independently.
An accessible telephone with clarity and simplicity is very important; at the same time, a telephone that I can bring with me, anywhere without so much cables and technology. The solution was a head set with good quantity such as plantonics or Netgear with a simple set like an amplifier, attach to the hand set to any phone. Unfortunately, when we look on the net all the options are very limit and the options from 3 years ago and now doesn’t make difference.
As an update, VNS as a give donated my mouthsticks which are five: to write, pinch paper, the stick for turning pages, and the docking station. Now, I'm working my therapist to get uses to them.
Oops, in regards telephone clarity and easy accessibility, I started using the aim triton online version with the head mouse. I like it so far. Every day is a leaning expirience in my journey.
Hugs,
Maddy
