How to Lower the Taxes on Social Security Disability Income

February 19th 2007 01:19
Taxes

When you finally do win your case, the Social Security Administration pays you for all the years since you filed your case. Yes, you will receive a gigantic check, after many months of struggling without a cent.
That's what happened to all of us when you are not available to work. After winning their appeal, you will receive the benefits, all in one year. Then you will need help on how to report this income for tax purposes.

The three big questions were:
A. Is Social Security Disability Income subject to tax?
B. Do you have to report all this in one year? After all, when added to the spouse's income for the year, the $33,000 received pushes them into a higher tax bracket.
C.Do you need to file amended returns and report the amounts awarded in the year they should have been received.
